China's tractor industry is undergoing an unprecedented transformation, evolving from a volume-focused manufacturer to a global leader in high-end, smart and green agricultural machinery. Fueled by policy support, technological innovation and rising demand for agricultural modernization, domestic brands such as YTO group and Weichai Lovol have emerged as frontrunners, redefining what constitutes the "best tractor in China" with breakthroughs in power transmission, new energy, and intelligent control.
The "best" tractors in China today are no longer judged solely by durability and cost-effectiveness, but by their integration of advanced technologies. At the 2025 China International Agricultural Machinery Exhibition, domestic giants showcased products that broke the technological monopoly of international brands. Weichai Lovol's CVT continuously variable transmission
tractors have entered mass production, while YTO Group's Dongfanghong power-shift models have gained widespread market recognition. Industry forecasts indicate that by 2026, the penetration rate of CVT technology in medium and large tractors will exceed 35% and power-shift models will account for over 60%, forming a gradient product matrix covering high-end, mid-range and basic segments.
Weichai Lovol stands out as a benchmark with its comprehensive technological advantages. The company launched the world's first pure electric tractor E1000 at the 2025 Hanover Show, featuring a dual-motor and two-speed AMT power solution that achieves an energy efficiency improvement through decoupling control. With a range of over 300 kilometers, it can meet the demand for 12 hours of continuous spring ploughing in the Central Plains region. In early 2026, the company unveiled its 2026 series of smart
tractors, marking the entry into the 2.0 era of power-shift technology with upgrades in electronic control systems, transmission efficiency and intelligent operation.
YTO Group, known as the "national team"of China's tractor industry, maintains a market share exceeding 30% with its profound heritage. Its LF2204-C power-shift tractor adopts a 12+12 gear design, reducing shift time to 0.3 seconds and equipped with an intelligent slope recognition system, making it well-suited for operations in hilly and mountainous areas. The company's overseas sales increased by 41% in 2025, with localized assembly bases established in Southeast Asia and Africa, shortening the product delivery cycle to 30 days.
Zoomlion has also made a significant mark with the launch of the world's most powerful hybrid wheeled tractor, the DX7004. With a peak output of 1,200 horsepower and a dual-motor hybrid powertrain, this nearly four-meter-high machine can cover 480 hectares in 12 hours of continuous operation. It integrates a self-developed digital chassis and smart control system, enabling autonomous driving and centimeter-level precision operations, setting a new global benchmark for high-horsepower agricultural equipment.
New energy and intelligence have become core competitiveness of China's top tractors. Lingong Agricultural Machinery announced that it will achieve full electrification of all products above 200 horsepower by 2026, with its hybrid ECVT tractor T3804-7EA already in mass production. Domestic tractors are also equipped with advanced intelligent systems: YTO Group's terminal collects more than 200 operating parameters in real time, achieving a 92% accuracy rate in fault early warning, while Weichai Lovol's "Lovol Cloud" system connects over 100,000 agricultural machinery equipment nationwide, optimizing operation routes and reducing empty driving rates by 15%.
Policy support has accelerated the industry's transformation. The 2025 Central No. 1 Document included new energy agricultural machinery in the key scope of "preferential subsidies for high-quality machinery," and Anhui Province launched a pilot special subsidy policy for new energy agricultural machinery, reducing the actual purchase cost of 200-horsepower hybrid tractors by 18% compared with fuel models. These policies have driven a 200% year-on-year growth in sales of new energy tractors.
While
China tractors industry has made remarkable progress, challenges remain, such as the low localization rate of core components like high-end hydraulic components and intelligent sensors. However, with continuous R&D investment and deepening international cooperation, domestic brands are steadily building an independent and controllable supply chain.
Today, China's best tractors are not only meeting domestic demand for large-scale, intelligent agriculture but also gaining recognition in the global market. With their technological strength, cost competitiveness and green development concepts, Chinese tractor brands are poised to climb the global value chain and contribute to the modernization of global agriculture.
