The Difference Between Disc Plough and Disc Harrow

I. Purpose and Function of the Assignment

Disc plough: Primarily used for plowing uncultivated land, it flips the soil upside down through rotating plow disks, suitable for deep tillage and cultivation of field crops, capable of handling complex soils such as loamy, sandy, and heavy-textured lands.

Disc harrow: Mainly employed for breaking up, leveling, and weed control on tilled land, the harrow teeth loosen and shred the soil while cutting ground vegetation and debris, facilitating subsequent seeding or land preparation operations.

II. Structure and Connection Methods

Disc plough: Typically features a three-point hitch structure, with the plow disk mounted on the plow body and equipped with a soil-turning board and tail wheel to balance lateral pressure. It boasts high structural strength and is suitable for deep plowing and heavy-duty operations.

Disc Harrow: Composed of a drawbar, harrow frame, and multiple disk units, the disks are connected via square shafts, ensuring relatively even force distribution. Connection methods include small three-point hitch and large tractor drawbar types, making it adaptable to farmland of varying scales. 

III. Working Principle

Disc plough: Achieves tillage by inverting the soil through the rotation of the plow disk. The disk has a large spherical concavity, with a blade thickness of 0.5-1 mm and a blade angle of approximately 12 degrees. During operation, the disk is set at a 40-45 degree angle to the direction of advance and a vertical tilt angle of 15-25 degrees.
